| Environmental Assessment Services
Atlatl's environmental assessment services
provide clients with an analysis of existing and potential environmental liabilities
related to property ownership transactions, in accordance with ASTM Standard
Practices. Consisting of three progressive phases of investigation, the service
allows the client to decide whether further investigation is warranted after each
phase. The three-level process is described below. During Levels 1 and 2,
information is collected to characterize environmental risks (such as contamination) at
the site. Level 3 activity, based on results of Levels 1 and 2, comprises activities
described in, Remedial Site Services.
Level 1 Site Assessment
Site Background Review and Interviews
Atlatl completes a site background assessment
to examine previous land uses to help determine if any potential environmental liabilities
exist at the site. The background assessment information is collected through personal
interviews, record and title searches, and discussions with environmental regulators.
On-Site Reconnaissance
- Assessment of any on-site solid or hazardous waste management
practices
- Inspection for chemical use on the property
- Photographing site conditions and any items of environmental
concern
- Identification of potential PCB-containing items and potential
environmental threats
- Determination of site water supply and waste water discharge
method
- Inspection of surface conditions to assess evidence of
subsurface disposal areas, stressed vegetation, or surface water contamination
- Inspect and assess the environmental liability of building
materials and contents
- Inspect any unusual or other miscellaneous areas of
environmental concern
Level 1 Assessment Report
A final report is prepared, in accordance
with ASTM Standard practices, summarizing the findings of the assessment. Site photographs
and maps of the site are included and discussed in the report. Significant environmental
liabilities present or suspected are documented, and further action, if needed, is
recommended.
Level 2 Site Assessment
The scope of work for a Level 2 site
assessment is prepared, contingent upon the findings of the Level 1 assessment. The
following tasks may occur during a Level 2 assessment:
- Sampling and analysis of suspect materials, spill areas or
residues
- Leak testing of underground storage tanks
- Soil and water sampling to define levels and extent of
contamination
- Installation of monitoring wells to define extent of
groundwater contamination
- Development of a preliminary remedial action plan and
estimated costs
- Preparation of a Level 2 report, documenting findings,
recommendations, and estimated costs of remedial action
Atlatl has the equipment and expertise
required to perform Level 2 Assessments.
Level 3 Site Assessment
The scope of work for a Level 3 site
assessment generally includes remedial action planning and activities needed to restore a
contaminated site. These plans and activities are dependent on the information
developed in Levels 1 and 2 assessments. Atlatl conducts Level 3 activities as described
in, Remedial Site Services.
