Atlatl provides solid waste consultation and design services to help communities and industries address recycling, composting, and disposal requirements. Under RCRA Subtitle D and State regulations, entities are required to site, design, operate, and close landfills according to strict regulatory guidance. Atlatl can assist you in complying with these environmental regulations.

Landfill Siting

Atlatl performs landfill site selection studies that incorporate the location standards of the Subtitle D regulations. We use a two-phase approach to select sites. In the first phase, a study zone is defined, and areas known to be unsuitable for use as a landfill are screened out. Site areas within the study zone are then selected for evaluation. In the second phase, site areas are scored according to their water resources, biological resources, physical attributes, economic attributes, and potential for socioeconomic impacts from development. Candidate sites are then ranked for suitability as landfill locations. We have successfully used public input in previous site selection studies, thereby emphasizing parameters of higher local importance. By using our objective and thorough site selection process, we can recommend landfill sites that comply with regulatory location standards and also comply with local concerns and constraints.

Solid Waste System Design

Atlatl provides design services for recycling systems, composting systems, new landfills, and upgrades of existing landfills. Our team of engineers and scientists have the training and experience to develop cut and fill plans, leachate collection systems, landfill liner systems, gas venting systems and sequential operation and maintenance plans. We can provide turn-key landfill designs to meet your requirements under RCRA Subtitle D, and can assist in planning to exclude recyclables and compostables from your landfill.

Solid Waste Operations and Closure

Atlatl is knowledgeable about landfill operations and can provide assistance as you modify existing operations or develop new operations to meet increased environmental and economic conditions. Our background in hazardous waste management qualifies us to assist in development of hazardous waste exclusion plans for landfill operation, or single-event household hazardous waste collections.

Atlatl also develops and implements landfill closure plans to specify the methods, procedures and processes for closure, including final cover design, waste inventory, and closure schedule, to meet State and RCRA Subtitle D regulations. We can develop post-closure plans to meet the requirements set forth in those regulations, and also assist in performing monitoring required by those plans.
